7D6N Thailand Trip : 5D4N Krabi (Part III)

So we landed in Krabi.
This is where shit gets really interesting for the both of us because so many things happened in this 5 days.

DAY ONE :
It was not really considered a day. We reached Krabi Airport (KBV) at about 5.30pm and was waiting for our driver. Prior to this trip, I tried Googling on the best way to get to our hotel from the airport and came to a conclusion that booking a private car is the best way because public transport is limited in Krabi and Taxis are only allowed to the airport if they have prior booking (or something like that, I was not sure but I am not willing to guess around when we reached there because I was sure we will be tired from all that traveling).

So while googling, I chanced upon this website : KRABI SHUTTLE

And I booked it for our airport transfer to and fro.
After booking and making online payment (Credit Cards), they will send you a confirmation email with the voucher that you will need to have in case of any emergency.

So anyway, we found him and got on his car. The car was really clean and spacious. They even have wifi in the car for us to use.
Here is where things start to get really exciting for us. Remember how in my first post, I mentioned that we booked a really sweet resort for a really good price? Apparently, when we got so excited and did not care about everything else but the view and the price, we forgot that we need to care about the location as well.

As it turns out, our resort is located on Railay Beach. All along, we thought that our resort is located at Ao Nang Beach, which is quite accessible. To head to Railay Beach, you will need to take a longtail boat to cross over to reach it. You see, beautiful things need effort. Railay beach is somewhat rather untouched by civilization, mainly because it is quite inaccessible.

We need to take a longtail boat from Ao Nang Pier, all the way to Railay Beach, then walk about 20 minutes to reach our resort.

WE DID NOT KNOW THAT AND IT TOOK US BY SURPRISE.
That, and you add being tired and hungry and cranky, it was not something you want to see from me hahahahahhaha. Yat must have had a really rough time hahahah.

So my tips? Please check the location of your resort or hotel the next time you go for a holiday. HAHAHAHAHA.

Anyway, we finally reached our resort, but by the time we reach the place, it was about 8pm and it gets really dark there earlier than it usually does in Singapore.
We checked in to our resort and grabbed a quick shower, before heading out to the heart of Railay beach for our dinner. We were starving.
The first thing we went after was the banana pancake because we could not seem to find it in Bangkok and I was craving for it. 50THB for one seems pretty cheap there, until you convert it to Singapore dollars and realized you are paying SGD2 for a snack (still relatively cheap to me as compared to buying ANY kind of snack here back home).

After which we had our proper dinner at The Last Bar.

It was a quaint place, with great ambience and really good live performance. He was doing covers of songs and strumming to it and was doing it all alone, so it was rather impressive.
We managed to catch the fire show performance by their local boys and it was mind-blowing.

Food was on the pricey side, but then again, almost everything was much more expensive here than compared to when I was in Patong, or even compared to the shops at Ao Nang. Mainly because there are only a few businesses here, and they know that it is difficult for guest to head over to the mainland to get products and services, so it makes sense to up the price here a little.

Demand and supply my friend. Demand and supply.

DAY TWO :

We finally managed to catch a daylight glimpse of the resort.
Be sure to bring mosquito repellent because you are technically kind of in the jungle, so there are bound to be mosquitoes.

#ThingsToDoInKrabi No. 1 : WHITE WATER RAFTING

We bought the full day tour package from one of the tour agents in Railay for our day 2 activities. We got the white water rafting and flying fox tour.

Here's the thing : Both Yat and I have been to Phuket before, so we both did white water rafting in Phuket when we were here. What we did not know is that when we buy the tour for white water rafting in Krabi, they are going to bring us to the same exact place where we went for white water rafting in Phuket.

So we really just paid money to go for white water rafting in Phuket, while all along getting excited to go on a different course.

If you are going for white water rafting in Phuket/Krabi, please do not go for the 5km option. It is boring, with not much fall or excitement. Go for the 9km option. We chose the 7km option though, and it only got exciting after the 5km mark. Tsk! Smart people.

#ThingsToDoInKrabi #3 : FEED THE MONKEYS

After a whole tiring day, we were sent back to the Ao Nam Pier and wait for our longtail boat back to our resort.

If you realize, there are some boats sitting on the sand. That is because, at 6pm, they are experiencing low tide. That is how far down the low tide is. At high tide, the floating pontoon will be sitting on the sea, and not on the sand bed. Amazeballz. I have never seen this in Singapore. I can never really see the difference on our beach when it is high or low tide. It is not this much of a difference, so I was quite impressed when I see this hahahaha.

DAY THREE :

#ThingsToDoInKrabi #4 : KAYAKING IN BHOR TOR.

You will be surprise at the breath-taking view of nature you get when you kayak your way through the mangrove. You even get to go up on one of their nature parks (cave) that you will only get to go to if you were to kayak your way there or get on a longtail boat and see the stalactites and stalagmites, the fascinating drawings of the cavemen before civilization took over and the top of the mountain view.

This was taken at the lagoon. A place you can only go when it is at high tide, because at low tide, there will not be water in there. The height of water from the seabed was only about 1m.

Here is a selfie of us infront of a stalagmites. I have been fascinated with stalagmites and stalactites from the first time I saw them during a cave exploration when I was in secondary school.

Fun Fact : Stalactites are the icicle shaped formation that hangs from the ceilings of a cave and is produced by precipitation of minerals from water dripping through the cave ceiling. Stalagmites are a type of rock formation that rises from the floor of a cave due to the accumulation of material deposited on the floor from ceiling droppings. - wikipedia

In school, to memorize which is which, just remember that Stalactites has a C in it, which represents the ceiling, while Stalagmites has a G in it, which represents the ground.

If you guys are wondering by now why am I using some images I got from Google and only from my phone, it is because the first few days in Krabi, we actually took pictures using the GoPro, and on the third day, our GoPro decided to jump to its death in the middle of the river which was 6m deep with a very strong current.

We were happily kayaking, almost reaching the mouth of a really beautiful cave (IT REALLY WAS BEAUTIFUL, I JUST WANNA STARE AT IT), so Yat suggested that I stop kayaking and just take a video of the whole place like he did for every other stop we went to before this particular cave. So I took the gopro, that was sitting in between us in the middle of our kayak, AND FOR SOME REASON, IT JUMPED OUT OF MY HANDS.

Right into the river, and we just look at it in horror, open-mouthed and Yat went, "B, seriously?"

RIP GOPRO.

If we were not in a lifevest, Yat could possibly have saved it before it goes all the way down. But yeah. Sigh/

Up there is actually a picture of me being upset and not wanting to talk to anyone after my GoPro died and went to camera heaven, instead of an artsy fartsy shot taken by Yat randomly. Lol.

What made me extra angry was when Yat tried to comfort me and look at me sympathetically while saying, "It's okay, we'll get another GoPro on my next pay okay?" - Totally missing the point here. I do not care if we could not revive the camera, or if someone wants to steal the GoPro. I JUST WANT THE MEMORY CARD THAT WAS IN IT WITH ALL MY HOLIDAY PICTURES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's it. After this trip, I am bringing my portable hard disk and my Surface RT Tablet, just so I can save all my pictures into my hard disk at the end of each day so I will never have to experience this kind of pain any more.
This picture has zero edit, zero filter and was taken by my iPhone 6.

After which, I truly appreciate my boyfriend's iPhone 6 gift to me lol.

DAY FOUR :

That was our breakfast view by the way. :)

#ThingsToDoInKrabi #5 : KRABI HOT SPRING WATERFALL

Krabi Hot Spring Waterfall are like nature's hot tubs, with water that comes from the deep rooted thermal springs located in volcanic chambers. The water is warm. It gets to the point where it is uncomfortably warm for me, because it was already a hot day and the next thing I need is a warm tub. I want to be in a hot tub, on a cold winter morning, or a cold tub during a hot, sweaty day. But that was me. Yat was happily enjoying himself in the tub.

I was told that the water are brimming with natural mineral salts which are claimed to cure all manner of health complaints, including sciatica. If you know my history, you would know why I actually bothered to soak myself in a hot tub during a hot day. I know it is just a belief of the locals, but it never hurt to try right? HAHAHA.

Anyway, if you are in Krabi, you should really try and head out here and the next pool. For the nature, for the view, the experience and just because.

#ThingsToDoInKrabi #6 : EMERALD POOL KRABI

I have no idea what to say about this place except that it is a phenomenal place, with the blue water (mostly because I think the sand and rocks are greenish blue in colour?) and that I welcome being soaked in this cooling water during the hot day any time.

After Crystal Pool, we have a half day ahead of us, so we decided to ask the driver to drop us off at Ao Nang Beach and we walked around, got a cheaper massage there as compared to Railay Beach and got our lunch there and took a tailboat back to our resort.

We took the 5.30PM longtail boat back to our resort and saw that we still have a lot of time to spare, so we jumped into our pool.

Yat thought he is some akro diver, being a coach for SEA Games 2015 and all.
Someone needs to tell him the truth.

Those three photos above really struck a chord with me. These kids are playing soccer and badminton on what is literally a seabed during high tide, and it amaze me how content they are with their life and how we are always looking for more, always greedy for more. I am always wondering if it is such a bad thing to be contented, to be okay with how things are or is that a sign of us being lazy and not want to work for more, or achieve more.

When did it become not okay to be contented with what we have, and always, I mean always, want more than what we have.

Trips to third world countries always have me sitting on a flight, reflecting on the way I live, the way I spend and the way I look at things. Every single time I come back from a trip from a third world country, I always feel thankful that I have a job at home, earning what seems to be their half year wage in a month even if I bitch about it every single working day of my life. I am thankful that I have a solid roof over my head that I do not really worry about when heavy rain hits my home, even if it is just a pigeon hole as compared to some of the house other people live in. I am thankful that even at my worse, I am still within a short distance from my love ones, that I still have food to eat, even if it's just biscuit and water (although I can never think of a single time my parents had to feed me JUST that).

I am thankful, for the chance to be able to travel and go back home and reflect on myself.

To many more travels, in sha Allah.
